A Trent Summar & the New Row Mob

Trent Summar & the New Row Mob are available to perform at your next corporate event!

"I'm country, if you know what that means," Trent Summar sings, exalting the ethic of his rural Tennessee upbringing. But "what that means" isn't the precious, stereotypical ideal of small town life. It's not a cutesy look at life outside the city limits or a musical retro time warp. It's muscle car country. ZZ Top on a honky-tonk jukebox country. It's ass-shaking, BBQ-eating, waterbed sleeping, above-ground swimming pool country.

“…the most impressive country album to come out of Nashville in a decade. I think it’s the most impressive rock record to come out of Nashville ever.” - Vic Garbarini/Playboy Magazine

“…pitched as heirs to Southern rockers like ZZ Top – they’re better than that. This self-titled debut album sounds more like the sequel to Exile on Main Street, a soulfully raucous, eclectic collection of blue-eyed country R&B.” - Bob Strauss/Los Angeles Daily News

“…mighty Southern rock’n’roll with a strong country flavor…picture Harry Dean Stanton trying to seduce Gina Rowlands in a beer joint housed in a double wide. That’s the vibe.” - Fetzer Mills Jr./No Depression

From the cowbell and guitar hook that kicks off lead track "Paint Your Name in Purple" - the tale of a dirt track racer who plans to honor his best gal by painting her name on his car - the self-titled album, produced by Grammy award-winning studio wizard R.S. Field (John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Webb Wilder, Shaver), holds listeners in the grip of its clever but honest songs, hardcore twang and grit, and Summar's big-league vocal stylings.

"It was a combination of the right songs, musicians, producer, studio and like-minded label guys - all the elements were in place to make a strong and diverse record," Summar says. "This is the record I've always dreamed of making."having a party!

It's the kind of country music that's instantly memorable and righteously out of step with today's pop-country mainstream. But Summar's appeal isn't about gimmicky interpretations of our musical heritage; his album's foundation is rooted in the country-meets-rock tradition, the place where Hank Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis and the Rolling Stones converge.

The record isn't Summar's first. His former band, Hank Flamingo, recorded one album for Giant Records to positive reviews. They made an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, had radio airplay and a video in rotation on CMT, but were best-known for their riotous live shows. Along with groups such as Jason and the Scorchers, Webb Wilder, and Walk the West, Hank Flamingo tore up the national club scene, turning heads well beyond their home base.

Of course, Summar's vocal talent was discovered long before that. His third grade music teacher took young Trent aside and pegged him to sing "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" at a school concert. "Ms. Alexander played piano, and I had the whole third grade backing me up," he remembers.

As impressive as that sounds, Summar's current backing group - the New Row Mob - may be even better. Nashville guitar hero Kenny Vaughan (Lucinda Williams, Trisha Yearwood, Kim Richey) spreads his genius liberally, while Hank Flamingo alumnus Philip Wallace adds considerable six-string edge and energy. Bassist and harmony singer Jared Reynolds (Pumpskully) and drummer David Kennedy (Walk the West) keep the slow tunes in the pocket while pounding away on the rockers. Add in Jerry Dale McFadden (Mavericks, Sixpence None the Richer) on piano and organ, and, as Summar says, his group is "filled with rock stars. It makes my job easy."

And Summar does his job well. His vocal attack on hillbilly rock tunes like "Paint Your Name in Purple," "I'm Country," and "The Beat Don't Ever Stop" matches the intensity and bombast of his all-star band. He sells the wit and charm of the can't-miss honky-tonk hit, "New Money" (the album's first single and soon-to-be video) to perfection. On ballads like "Starletta," an ode to a "second generation flower child," and his cover of Albert Hammond's "It Never Rains in California," Summar shows range and dead-onnew row mob concert control.

“Playing kick-butt, rock-out country in a proud, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Buddy Holly-meets-the-Ramones tradition, Trent Summar & The New Row Mob are out to rupture your speakers and mess with your mind.” - Chet Flippo/Sonicnet

Trent Summar and the New Row Mob have been testing out their raucous stage act on delighted Nashville audiences. These boys know how to rock when they hit the road , there isn't likely to be a tighter or tougher "country" band around - if you know what that means.
