The Spinners

We have had the pleasure of booking The Mighty Mighty Spinners for corporate and special events. The Spinners can be available for yours too.

"One of the best show we have ever had! The Spinners songs are classics and they are true showmen too!" - Music Fest

It should come as no surprise that The Spinners have always made timeless music.  Their classic group sound and approach never loses its universal appeal.  More remarkable is the fact that The Spinners are more popular in the new millennium than ever. Throughout the years, they have acquired twelve (12) gold records with their hits climbing to the top of both Pop and R&B charts and they are one of the few groups who can boast of four (4) lead singers.  Members include Frank Washington, Bobbie Smith, Henry Fambrough, Pervis Jackson, and Harold 'Spike' Bonhart.

In 1972, The Spinners signed with Atlantic Records and teamed with producer, Thom Bell, and manager, Buddy Allen (who still manages the group today), setting into motion an amazing recording career.  A partial list of their hit singles with Atlantic includes such classic tunes as:
  • Mighty Love
  • Then Came You
  • Rubberband Man
  • I'll Be Around
  • One Of A Kind (Love Affair)
  • Games People Play
  • Could It Be.... and more!

the spinnersIn 1979, The Spinners completed their first collaboration with producer, Michael Zager, and by early 1980, the single, “Working My Way Back To You,” was topping Pop and R & B charts alike, earning The Spinners their 12th Atlantic gold record.  The Love Trippin’ album’s release followed the single in May of 1980 and included “The Cupid Medley,” one of the fastest selling records in the history of The Spinners’ career. The follow-up album, Labor Of Love, featured such stand out tunes as “Yesterday Once More” and “Long Live Soul Music.”  With the release of Can’t Shake This Feeling, their fourth LP in just over two years, the quintet entered a brand new phase of their remarkable career as they joined the award winning producing/writing/playing team of James Mtume and Reggie Lucas.  Their most recent endeavor was a signing with Dick Clark’s record label, Click Records.

Other past releases include songs on the motion picture soundtrack albums for “Twins” and “Spaceballs,” and a single on Arista Records, a duet with Dionne Warwick entitled “Then Came You.”  When they’re not in the studio, The Spinners maintain a packed schedule of concert dates and television appearances.

Throughout the years, The Spinners have taken the opportunity to use their name and influence to give back to society through charity, thus making themselves known as “The Group With A Conscience.”  They ran a highly successful benefit show in Philadelphia for the incapacitated Jackie Wilson, raising $60,000 and paying all expenses out of their own pockets. They have also made appearances on behalf of the NAACP, urban league operation Push, Big Brother, Big Sister, Autistic Children, and many others.

The Spinners have been nominated six (6) times for a Grammy and have performed twice during the awards ceremony.  They received a Black Gold Award on the Dick Clark TV special for their many achievements in the recording industry, and they have been awarded the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Award for their contribution to R & B music.

On June 5, 1993, The Spinners performed at the White House for President & Mrs. Clinton in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Georgetown University graduates.

Also, the group recently completed two PBS specials and an ABC special, entitled “Disco Ball,” paying tribute to the music of the 70’s.  They recently received a star on the Hollywood “Walk of Fame” and are one of the most sought after entertainment groups in the United States.

Quoted in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the band noted, “There are only two ways to go in this business.  You either get some class,  and eventually think about longevity, or you think about doing a fast thing, play to multitudes of people for a short time, get the money and get out.  We’ve always been dedicated to the business, so we’ve always thought of class.”  The Spinners have proven their commitment to longevity and have given a special meaning to the word, class, with their hard work, their dedication, and—most importantly—their talent.  It is their high standard for quality music that has kept them at the top year after year, and there is no sign that The Spinners will ever let up.
