Travis MayerOlympic medalist and skiing great Travis Mayer can be available for motivational appearances and speaking engagements at your next seminar or corporate conference! Titles/Career Highlights:
Travis Mayer is John and Lynn Mayer's youngest of three sons, born February 22, 1982. The Mayer's own a cider mill, juice and water bottling business in Buffalo, New York. Travis grew up between the city, the mill, and the family farm. In 1984, the family started bringing Travis along to the local ski area, Holiday Valley. During the next four years, Travis chased his older brothers and parents around the mogul runs, the most entertaining options at the 650 vertical foot mini-Himalaya. In 1988, Travis followed his older brothers' lead and joined the Holiday Valley Freestyle Team. The Mayer Family still skied primarily on the weekends and began to travel to competitions on most of those weekends. Almost every weekend in the winter, for the next eight years, the clan piled into their old Suburban and drove between seven and twelve hours each way to Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Travis dominated his age class in the Northeast and nationally for those years. After Travis finished Junior High, it was quite apparent to the family that their youngest son had the talent and desire necessary to pursue mogul skiing to the elite level, so freshman year of high school Travis went to Killington Mountain School in Vermont, a five month tutorial program that would allow Travis to study and train in a more productive atmosphere. After one year at KMS, Travis decided that he needed a year-round program with better training and academics, so he moved to Steamboat Springs, CO to attend the Lowell Whiteman School and train with 92' Olympian Bobby Aldighieri. Travis' mother moved out to keep an eye on him, and his father flew out twice a month to spend time with his son and wife. During high school, Travis continued to improve his skills and rankings. In the fall of his Junior Year, Travis was named a member of the US Ski Team, at the age of sixteen. During his three years at the Whiteman School, Travis won a Junior National Championship, a Continental Cup, and a NorAm Tour. Despite his success, Travis was frustrated and felt stagnant at the Development level of the US Ski Team. In the fall of 2000, Travis matriculated at Cornell University to take a semester break from ski training. In January of 2001, Travis started training and competing full-time again and started the push that placed him on the podium at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. In a two and a half month period - December 1, 2001 to February 14, 2002 - Travis went from a frustrated development skier, to an A Team member of the US Ski Team with two World Cup Silver Medals, a Gold Cup victory, and an Olympic Silver Medal. Travis still lives and trains in Steamboat Springs, CO. He is still a student at Cornell University and tries to balance his athletics with academics by taking summer classes and correspondence courses. Travis spent the two months following the competition season traveling for appearances, speaking engagements, and autograph sessions. He spends his free time enjoying the outdoors, fly-fishing, mountain biking, playing tennis, trampolining, and helping with the local sports club and New York City's Robin Hood Foundation.
