Olympic Swimmer Tom Malchow

After 2 years of trying, Tom finally broke the World Record in the 200m Butterfly (1:55:18) at the Cadillac Swimming Challenge in Charlotte North Carolina. Tom sent the sold out crowd into a near frenzy with his blazing speed on his way to smashing the World Record previously held by Denis Pankrotov of Russia.

This native of St. Paul, Minnesota is a 1996 Olympic Silver Medallist and a 1999 Pan Pacific Gold Medallist. Tom was the youngest swimmer on the '96 Olympic team which competed in Atlanta. Don't be fooled by Tom's youth and laid back personality, he is all business on-deck before he races. Battling back is what Tom knows best. His asthma was so severe at one point he was not sure if he would be able to compete in the sport he loves so much.

Tom hopes to utilize any fame he generates from swimming to communicate with kids about perseverance, determination and community service.
