Patti has more than 25 years of experience in diabetes education in a variety of settings from pediatrics to nutrition research, and as a member of a Recognized Education Program of the American Diabetes Association. As the owner of Geil Nutrition Communications, Patti makes presentations, writes nutrition articles and cookbooks and does diabetes and food-related media work. She continues to see clients for diabetes education in a multi-physician practice in Lexington, Kentucky as part of an ADA Recognized Education Program, Diabetes Care and Communications.

Patti earned her BS in Dietetics (1976) at Marshall University in Huntington, WV and her MS in Clinical Nutrition (1980) at the University of Kentucky. She has also completed doctoral degree course work in Instructional Design and Media.

An active member of the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators and the Diabetes Care and Education Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association, Patti is also a certified Fellow of the American Dietetic Association. She serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She served as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Diabetes Association and Diabetes Spectrum. She has also been named Kentucky Outstanding Dietitian of the Year.

Patti is the author of numerous professional and consumer articles and book chapters. She makes numerous educational presentations to meetings of local, state, national and international professional and community organizations and actively works with the media as an advocate for good nutrition.
