John Naber

Olympic athlete and gold medalist John Naber is available to inspire your next special event or conference!

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, John Naber captured four Gold Medals, one Silver, and broke four World Records. His World marks in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke lasted an amazing seven years after his retirement.

During his athletic career he won 25 National AAU titles, and won a record 10 NCAA individual titles (in 12 swims), while leading his team to four undefeated seasons, and in 1977, he won the 1977 James E. Sullivan Award as America’s Outstanding Amateur Athlete.

In 1984 he carried the Olympic Flag into the Opening Ceremonies of the Los Angeles Games, and was elected into the United States Olympic Committee Hall of Fame.

In a recent nationwide USA Today contest, he was elected as the male co-captain of the 100 Golden Olympians, an all-star group of many of America's most famous Olympic champions, including Bruce Jenner, Magic Johnson, Mark Spitz and Muhammad Ali.

The Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, marked his seventh Olympic broadcast. He worked as a sports commentator at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, 1988 Games in Seoul, the ’92 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville, ’94 in Lillehammer, '96 Games in Atlanta and the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan.

John Naber remains in demand as a television personality. He has served as play-by-play host for over 30 different Olympic sports, including his work on various networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, TNT, ESPN and HBO) for gymnastics, weightlifting, equestrian and skiing events. He has also hosted shows like the Ladies Professional Bowlers Tour and the "Great College Rivalries" series on ESPN and ESPN2, as well as the Winter Olympic coverage for Turner Broadcasting.

As an observer of athletic excellence, he is able to share the "behind-the-scenes" stories of the athletes and their accomplishments. With the use of humor in matching his comments to the specific needs of his audience, John Naber has developed a series of interchangeable "power-paragraphs" fit for any occasion from a sports event to a sales and management seminar. Along with his individual goal-setting methods, he uses his experience as an Olympic athlete and his observations as a sports announcer to illustrate the process of seeing dreams come true.

John Naber has worked as a Master of Ceremonies, keynote speaker, seminar leader, panelist, moderator, and dinner speaker for small audiences of twenty to full auditoriums of 50,000.

Although he always customizes his remarks to his audience, his topics include:

  • The Gold Medal Performance; Seeing Your Dreams Come True
  • Discipline; Keeping the Promises You Make to Yourself
  • Teamwork in a Competitive World
  • Motivation; The Feeling Before the Accomplishment
