Standing by your word and supporting your family are values everyone talks about upholding, but accomplished NFL linebacker Chris Spielman lives by his word. When his wife Stefanie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, he decided to take a year off from the NFL despite the fact that there was much at stake. The career he had spent 10 years building was on the line and after recovering from a serious injury in 1997, Spielman needed the '98 season to prove he could still play. For Chris, all of that took a back seat to five words he said to his wife on their wedding day - "in sickness and in health."

Ten years after the Detroit Lions drafted him in the second round, the top defensive player for the Buffalo Bills called it quits for 1998. "It was a very easy decision for me to make," he said. "My wife has supported me for 10 years unconditionally, and the least I can do is go through this with her unconditionally."

Stefanie's cancer is now in remission and Chris recently retired from the Cleveland Browns, ending his 10-year career in the NFL. His passion and dedication for football and family make for an incredible story.
