Bill Rodgers

Bill Rodgers - one of the greatest names in all of sports - is now available for speaking appearances at your next corporate event or conference.

A four-time winner of the Boston and New York City Marathons and former Olympian, Bill Rodgers is now making personal appearances and participating in 5- and 10-K runs and half-marathons. Rodgers is also one of the most sought after speakers on the circuit, headlining corporate and business conferences and meetings and running-related events.

Bill has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He was ranked #1 in the world in the Marathon by Track & Field News in 1975, 1977, and 1979, and was ranked #2 in the world in 1978. He was the runner-up for the prestigious Sullivan Award in 1975, and was a member of the U.S. Olympic team at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal Canada. After reaching the Masters ranks, Bill continued to have success, being given the RRCA Masters of the Year Award in 1990 and 1992.

During the height of his career, Bill set a number of records both on the track and on the roads. On the track, he still holds American records in 15k (43:39.08), 20k (58:15), 25k (1:14:12), 30k (1:30:56) and 1 hour (12 miles, 1351 yds. He is also the former World Recordholder for 25k on the track (1:14:12). On the roads, he set a then American record for 30k with a 1:29:04 and for the Marathon with 2:09:27 (this was broken in 1981).

His most famous victories occurred at the New York City and Boston marathons, both of which he won an astounding four times. His first victory in Boston came in 1975, where he posted a then-CR of 2:09:55. He won again in 1978 (2:10:13), set a then American record of 2:09:27 in 1979, and won yet again in 1980 with a 2:12:11. At New York, he set a then CR of 2:10:10 in 1976, then won again in 1977 (2:11:28), 1978 (2:11:28) and 1979 (2:12:12). In all, he has toed the starting line at 57 marathons, running 28 of them under 2:15.

Turning 40 didn't slow Rodgers down much, as he started competing in the Masters ranks with great success. He set masters records on the roads at a variety of distances from 5k to 20k, then after turning 45, set a number of 45-49 age group road records. Since turning 50, he has set several single-age records and was ranked #1 in the 50-54 age group by Running Times and USA Track & Field for 1998.

In honor of his lifetime of running achievements, Rodgers was inducted to the National Distance Running Hall of Fame in Utica, NY in the first round; in 1999 to the National Track and Field Hall of Fame, located in Indianapolis, IN; and has been a member of the RRCA Hall of Fame since 1978.
