Jr. Walker's All Star Band

Known the world over as the "Ultimate Motown Party Band", Jr. Walker's All Star Band present a spectacular live performance of unforgettable, non-stop foot stomping hits that guarantee everyone is on their feet within minutes of the group hitting the stage. Featuring original members Victor Thomas and Tony Washington, along with Kenny Walker, Acklee King and sax man Terry Hanck.

Harvey Fuqua signed the band to his label. In 1963 he closed down his label and brought his artists including the band with him to Motown Records. In 1965, "Shotgun" blasted its way to #1 on the R&B charts and to #4 on the Pop Recording lists and established "Jr. Walker and the All Stars" as American musical legends. Walker, who was born Autry De Walt, started his rise to the top in South Bend, Indiana where he first played the saxophone in school and then in a series of bands that he organized.

Soon after forming the "All-Stars", Walker took his signature sax sound and recorded "Shotgun". The phenomenal success of the recording was quickly followed by a string of "party" hits:

  • "Shotgun" - #1 R&B hit
  • "What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)" - #1 R&B hit (#4 Pop hit)
  • "Do The Boomerang" - #10 R&B hit
  • "Shake and Fingerpop" - #7 R&B hit
  • "I'm A Roadrunner" - #4 R&B hit (#20 Pop hit)
  • "Pucker Up Butter Cup" - #3 Pop hit (#11 R&B hit)
  • "Hip City, Part Two" - #7 R&B hit
  • "These Eye's" - #3 at R&B (#16 Pop hit)
  • "Gotta Hold On To This Feeling" - #2 R&B Hit, (#21 Pop hit)
  • "Do You See My Love (For You Growing)" - #2 at R&B (#32 Pop hit)
  • "Walk In The Night" - #10 at R&B (#46 Pop hit)

Featuring  Terry  Hanck  former sax Player of Elvin Bishop Bay Area tenor saxophonist Terry Hanck, a veteran of Elvin Bishop’s band who has also worked with Etta James, Sister Monica, and Tracy Nelson,  "Terry Hanck is the funkiest, sexiest, most prolific and talented singer/songwriter/musician on the earth. He has to be Jr. Walker's bastard child." --Tracy Nelson

A funky cover of The Supremes chart topping Holland-Dozier-Holland song, "Come See About Me" reached #8 on the R&B chart (#24 Pop hit). Junior's original and definitive version of "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" which reached #3 on the R&B chart (#18 Pop hit) has since become a Motown standard.

Jr. Walker continued recording for Motown through the 60's and '70's with his own group as well as lending his distinctive style to Foreigner's massive '82 #1 hit "Urgent". Walker continued to tour through the 80's and early 90's."Jr. Walker and his All Stars" were in demand worldwide, keeping up a non-stop worldwide schedule of concert dates and "one nighters". The band maintained a reputation as a phenomenal live act until his untimely death from cancer in Battle Creek, Michigan, November 23, 1995.

Today, the "Ultimate Motown Party Band,' known worldwide as Jr. Walker's All-Star Band is back with original members Victor Thomas and Tony Washington, along with Kenny Walker, Acklee King and sax man Terry Hanck.

Jr. Walker's All Star Band will present to you spectacular one-hour live performances with non-stop foot-stomping hits that guarantee everyone will be on their feet within minutes.
