Why is knowing an exact date for your event important?
Have you ever tried to hit a moving target and end up spinning your wheels instead? Your time is valuable, so do yourself and your company a favor and don't waste time. Take time to decide now on the exact date of your event as well as your budget for entertainment. Deciding on the exact date of your event and budget are the single most important step in making your event a success. Until these are decided, you are operating on nothing but pure speculation. Here's why:
Rule #1 - There are no "holds" regardless of what you have been told. Performer's schedules are pure moving targets that wait for no one. Their availabilities are subject to change at a moment's notice, and are not firm until a formal offer is made, the offer is accepted, the contracts are signed, and a full deposit is lodged. Do not kid yourself to think an Artist will wait on you and hold your date - all bets are off. Artists are human beings, with the ability to change their mind due to a better offer, a tour, a recording project, a television show etc. - the nature of their career schedule necessitates them taking the first firm offer with binder and deposit placed in front of them.
Be smart - do yourself a favor - if you want exact quotes for your event - you will need to decide on an exact date now!
