Carmen Ciricillo -The Construction Comic

For most people, improving their current houses or building brand new ones is a serious business. But to former contractor Carmen Ciricillo, it's one laugh after another.

Ciricillo is the Construction Comic, a stand-up comedian who bases his routine on his experiences working for his family's business in Cleveland, Ohio, where his relatives still build custom houses under the name Reggie Homes.

In fact, as Ciricillo tells it, the only person in his entire family who isn't in the construction business is his sister's husband, Tom. And Tom's more than a little embarrassed that he doesn't make as much as the rest of the clan. "I said, 'Look Tom, there's no shame in being a neurosurgeon. Maybe you're paying too much for your materials. When you put a plate in some guys' head, forget steele. Use aluminum. Who's going to know?

Carmen, who is a former contractor specializes in performing stand up comedy for the construction industry. He has done shows for every major association including:

Ciricillo isn't to be confused with Tim Allen, the tool guy. "I don't mention tools, I don't say anything about horsepower, and I don't grunt", he says. "I do construction humor, stuff about being late, beer guzzling workers, overcharges. You know, the stereotypical stuff."

Why don't contractors shower? "To be sure to have enough body odor to keep the customer away from them the entire day." Why do construction workers drink on the job? "Not to get drunk. To empty the cans so they can recycle the aluminum so they will be enough siding for your house."
