Dateline: June 4, 2001 San Antonio, TX - Tired Conference Attendee Is Wowed!

"I didn't know what to think when Ilearned that Branscombe Richmond was billed as the featured performer at the ISCS 2001 Fiesta in San Antonio, TX. I mean, the name didn't sound familiar, however when I saw a picture of him, I recognized him as 'that guy' from the hit TV series "Renegade" starring Lorenzo Llamas. Branscombe portrays the Native American Indian who stars as the high-flying bounty hunter "Bobby Six Killer." I learned that Renegade has been seen worldwide by over 30 million viewers weekly.OK, so I recognized his face and that he was an actor (in over 300 films) - but what could this guy Branscombe Richmond and his band "The Renegade Posse" do for me - the tired conference attendee who was a long way home and tired to boot? Here I was, at an insurance convention, I have been dragging in and out of booths and seminars all day and I was tired. If there was going to be entertainment, I was expecting a recording star with hit records - not some TV actor on stage. Was I ever in for a surprise.

Branscombe Richmond & The Renegade Posse took the stage at the ISCS Fiesta 2001 party at 8:30 and once started - never looked back. I didn't know it at the time, but were we in for a treat. The dance floor was packed from the moment they started until they ended some 2 hours later. Let me state right here that Branscombe and the Renegade Posse don't have any hit records, and they don't pretend to have any either. However, what this group does have is a Ph.D in fun. They enjoy - no, make that - they revel - in the art of making even a tired conference attendee like me, get up and have a great time. From the moment they stepped on stage - the music the performed was upbeat and friendly - all the great songs that make you want to get up and dance.Indian motorcycles

Branscombe took control of the stage like a master entertainer (no wonder he was recently voted Native American Entertainer of the Year). And backing him up was The Renegade Posse band who followed suit with smiles on their faces and energy in their bones. No one on stage was having a bad time - you could not mask the energy that started on stage and traveled down to the conference attendees.

Skeptical you say - so was I - however somewhere in between the great music, and his throwing Frisbees into the crowd, tossing out beach balls to be kicked around, inviting conference members of the crowd up on stage to play a sax solo on a blow up sax I stared to let my guard down. Perhaps it was the band members donning the hosts' ISCS Fiesta Sombreros that I knew this band was out of the ordinary. Not only did they make us IASA 2001 Conference attendees feel welcome - Branscombe and the band made sure that they knew that the party's hosts - ISCS - really enjoyed having them here. He remembered to mention our hosts name and marketing message time and time again throughout the night. I can even recall him call up ISCS's own Tim Shelton and Andy Scurto to the stage for some impromptu onstage antics.

And if that wasn't enough - the party was just starting to kick into gear. The music kept pumping from the Renegade Posse band and I knew we the night was getting better and better. Next thing I knew, Branscombe was engaging the crowd, singing another party favorite - and also throwing his own t shirts out to the crowd, followed by tossing out strings of beads, followed by blow up instruments, blow up favors - the list goes on and on - I had never seen a show give so much to the crowd. and they were just getting started!

Cordial - you bet - in addition to welcoming the guest of the party - he made sure to acknowledge any US veterans in the crowd. He also told of how he is part Indian, and brought out one of his Posse - Eric Runningpath - a full blood Native American who was outfitted in Native American clothing and Branscombe & ISCSproceeded to dance on stage with the band.

Flaming drumsticks? No problem! Confetti cannons shooting out streamers and confetti? You bet! More hit songs? Absolutely - the band and the music never stopped playing. And while I am on the band - The Renegade Posse - let me tell you - they were a well oiled machine - all excellent players with smiles on their faces - having a great time. You could tell this band wasn't faking it - this is what they live for. The guitar solos were hot, keyboards excellent, the female sax player was great, percussion players were right on the money, and even their bald-headed fiddle player (more on the bald headedness later) was awesome - even when he left the stage with his wireless microphone and proceeded to hop up on a table at the other end of the room to play a hot solo under the spotlight. Talk about getting that table's attention - there was no doubt about it.

At this point I was way passed skepticism about 'this TV actor-guy" and his entertainment value - at this time I was wearing a genuine smile on my face in awe of the energy Branscombe Richmond & the Renegade Posse delivered on stage. Even with a hot 90+ degree night here in San Antonio - and all of the above from their bag of tricks, their train still kept chugging well into the hot San Antonio night. Speaking of trains - how about the 50 person long conga line they had going around the dance floor? How about the women they invited up on stage to serenade? How about more mentions of how the host ISCS was so happy to have everyone attend the party.

And since this was a party crowd by this time of the night - I witnessed a never before seen move that transformed these guys into party band extraordinariness. It involved Branscombe's sharp eye for reading the audience - a bottle of tequila and a bald head. The bottle of tequila came into play before the band went on stage. I thought this was one of the "rock star' requests and that the band needed to down this as a way to play better. Wow, was I wrong. Remember the bald-headed fiddle player? During one of his hot solos on stage - I witnessed Branscombe pull out that bottle of tequila, balance a shot glass on the bald head of the fiddle player - and start wow, what a party band!pouring shots of tequila for the crowd. Mind you, this would not be appropriate at all events they play - but in the spirit of this night's party - and because Branscombe knew the audience he was performing for - I watched as Branscombe went through serving a whole bottle of tequila shots, balanced preciously on the fiddle players head - as he served each and every one of these shots to the dancing crowd in front of the stage. Perhaps not appropriate at every corporate event where they perform - however on this night - the crowd and audience were eating it up.

By the time that that this party pulled into the station - Branscombe Richmond & the Renegade Posse had finished off the crowd with a big ending, and even came back for an encore and standing ovation. All of this - and he even had time to sign autographs until the last fan was standing.

I didn't really know who Branscombe Richmond & the Renegade Posse were before this party started - but I am sure stunned at how this "guy on TV" really is truly a first class entertainer. I don't know what event you might have planned, but if you are looking for a show and entertainer that understands the importance of a memorable event, who reads the audience and adapts at a moment's notice, who knows the importance of delivering the hosts marketing message - and who just likes to show the audience a wow-powered time - then look no further than Branscombe Richmond & the Renegade Posse - they have a Ph.D. in entertainment excellence."
