Ann Hampton Callaway

Ann Hampton Callaway is one of the most widely acclaimed singer/songwriters working in pop/jazz today. The award winning artist has received national attention from television audiences for her song "The Nanny Named Fran" which she wrote and performed for the CBS television comedy hit "The Nanny." Another of Ann's compositions, "At The Same Time" was performed by Barbra Streisand for President Clinton in Los Angeles and was recorded for Streisand's recent CD "Higher Ground" which debuted nationally at #1. Streisand recently asked Ann to write the lyrics to a Rolf Lovland melody, entitled "I've Dreamed Of You" which was sung by Barbara Streisand to James Brolin at their wedding, and was recorded for her new CD "A Love Like Ours."

Ann's CD recordings include, "After Ours" on Denon Records with world-renowned jazz pianist Kenny Barron and bassist Jay Leonhart and also "To Ella With Love" on After 9 Records/Sin-Drome Records, which was recorded with jazz greats Wynton Marsalis, Cyrus Chestnut, Christian McBride and Lewis Nash as a tribute to jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald featuring some of her best loved standards. Ann performed selections from the CD at the Carnegie Hall Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.

She also released a holiday CD entitled "This Christmas" on Angel Records which featured a new song written by Johnny Mandel and Alan and Marilyn Bergman and a duet with Kenny Rankin. Ann's other CD recordings are "Bring Back Romance (DRG)" and "Ann Hampton Callaway (DRG), Sibling Revelry" with her sister, Broadway musical star Liz Callaway. The Cole Porter Estate officially recognizes Ann Hampton Callaway as the only composer to have collaborated with Cole Porter having set her music to his posthumously discovered lyric, "I Gaze In Your Eyes" recorded for the Ben Bagley "Cole Porter Revisited" series.ann hampton callaway

Ann's performances have been heard on numerous national and international television shows such as "The Today Show", "CNN", "The Charlie Rose Show", "The Oprah Winfrey Show", "Charles Grodin", "ABC News", "PBS" and "BBC."

She has performed for President Clinton in Washington, DC and was the invited guest performer for former President Gorbachev's Youth Peace Summit in Moscow. She performed with her sister Liz Callaway their original musical "Sibling Revelry" at London's Donmar Warehouse, and then resumed her solo performances headlining at Harrah's in Atlantic City and a sold-out run in New York, then on to Los Angeles, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Denver, Seattle and Paris in 1999/2000.

Ann has completed a second CD for After 9 Records/Sin-Drome Records entitled "Easy Living" featuring pianists Kenny Barron, Benny Green and Bill Charlap with guest artists Wynton Marsalis and Nelson Rangel for a October 1999 release. She recently appeared as special guest artist in a nationally televised performance with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops and, with them again, at Tanglewood. Earlier this year, Ann performed in New York with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in the American Popular Standard series. She was also guest artist at Carnegie Hall with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops.
Ann was born and raised in Chicago. Her father is John Callaway, a former CBS News correspondent and host of the PBS show "Chicago Tonight." Her mother, Shirley Callaway, is a prominent Broadway vocal coach. Ann resides in New York.
